Well folks, I’m sorry I didn’t give you a heads up about the Encore Awards, which took place last night at the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket. The event was a wonderful tribute to people and businesses that have made a big impact on the arts community in Rhode Island. The 2008 award winners are Roger Mandle, William Vareika Fine Arts, Clay Rockefeller, Herci Marsden, Michael Townsend, Providence Singers, Struever Brothers, and Morris Nathanson Design.

After a quick and moving awards ceremony, the event processed into a large, and grandly decorated hall, where guests were able to move from pavilion to pavilion amongst fairies, C3PO’s, and other imaginary creatures to partake in the wonderful delicacies of Rhode Island. My favorite bite for the evening was the mini-chocolate cake tower by Sin.

Summing up the entirety of the event is difficult, but I believe one guest hit the nail on the head by describing the evening as having a distinctly urban Burning Man feel.
