The Boston Globe just published an article highlighting Providence and a great local group for digital media and information technology folks, Providence Geeks. The article does great job of explaining the growing ecosystem of startups here in Providence.

Old Trinity Theater Benefit

Trinity Restoration Inc., a non-profit organized to restore the old Trinity Theater, the birthplace of Trinity Rep, has organized a benefit concert taking place on December 20. They have quite a lineup of local jazz and gospel artists, including: The Kim Trusty Band, Geoffrey Hicks Quartet, percussionist Jorge Najarro, a 30-voice gospel choir, saxophonist Chelsa Bailey, jazz violinist David Eure, and storyteller Valerie Tutson. This will be a great opportunity to view the old theater before renovations begin as well as a great concert.

There is a reception prior to the concert from 5:30 to 6:30 PM . Proceeds from all ticket sales benefit the restoration of the old Trinity Theater by Trinity Restoration Inc.

Tickets are available through ArtTix, an online ticketing service designed to keep ticket proceeds local, provided by the local non-profit Arts & Business Council of RI.

Food For Thought

The Genesis Center is holding their 11th Annual Food For Thought extravaganza at 6:30PM-10:00PM on October 25th, 2007, in the Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park. Don’t miss the chance to sample food from over 20 great Providence restaurants.

In addition to more mainstream offerings, The Genesis Center’s own culinary students led by Chef Branden Lewis are working with David Gracer from Sunrise Land Shrimp to prepare gourmet insect treats!
