I randomly walked into this new restaurant on Federal Hill yesterday. Turns out they are having their grand opening today.

They would be best described as Upscale Chinese. I ordered steamed vegetables with tofu and brown sauce. The mix of vegetables was very good and the sauce delicious. I was informed that they make each bowl of sauce from scratch for every order. Lunch came in just under $10 before tip. A decent price for the quality of the meal.

There were a few service bumps not uncommon at a new restaurant, but other than that, no complaints. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

I can’t find a website for them yet, but they are located at 220 Atwells Ave. Definitely worth checking them out.

Since I moved to Providence in 2002, I’ve been searching for a place where I could consistently get a good haircut, enjoy the experience, and pay a reasonable price. We seem to live in times where most of those who participate in the noble profession of cutting hair change their places of employment frequently, which makes fulfilling my first two requirements nearly impossible. Pile on my third requirement, and I feared my search to be a futile one.

I am happy to announce that my search has successfully ended right in my backyard! After three years, I decided to try the Vinnie D Barber Salon located at 265 Broadway. What I found was the perfect haircut experience.

I entered the salon and was promptly greeted by Vinnie, who upon request gave my raggedy head of hair a once over and quoted me a price I thought was reasonable. For the next thirty minutes Vinnie focused intently on his art in a way only possible after years of experience. Employing tools of a true barber, Vinnie used several scissors and trimmer extensions, a vaccuum to remove unwanted hair clippings, and a straight razor to clean my sideburns. His customer service was impeccable and his mannerisms welcoming.

I looked in the mirror when he was done, and I knew that I had found the place I would be going to get my hair cut for as long it exists.

On my way out, he gave me a card and suggested I call in a week for an appointment to avoid waiting in the future. I plan on making that call.
