Watch the Iron Guild fire up their furnaces for the 4th annual molten metal spectacular. In the past they’ve brought us fiery hearts, zombie kings, and glowing skulls. This year…pumpkin casting and a giant flaming Jack-O-Lantern!

Music provided by Empty House Cooperative.

Enjoy hot cider, doughnuts, and wood-fired pizza while you take in the performance. The event will also feature a bowl sale by the Steel Yard Ceramic Artist Cooperative.

bending, and throwing. In addition to our regular lineup of courses we
have some really exciting new offerings.

In Hollowware with Patrick McMillan students will explore metalsmithing
and learn basic raising, sinking, and fabrication in order to form their
own vessels from copper sheet.

Students working with Heather Guidero in Casting: Jewelry and Other Small
Objects will learn the art of lost wax casting, a great method for
producing one-of-a-kind objects as well as a whole run of identical
copies. This course is a must for anyone interested in starting their own
jewelry business.

Eye of the Beholder is wheel and hand-building course just for 14 to 18
year-olds. This new offering encourages students to look beyond simple
cups and bowls and explore the creative potential of the ceramic vessel.

The Steel Yard is located at the historic Providence Steel and Iron site, along the Woonasquatucket River in the heart of Providence’s industrial Valley neighborhood. With a 5612 square foot industrial shop featuring a foundry, ceramics studio, blacksmithing shop, and welding shop, as well as studio space and outdoor work and exhibition space, the Steel Yard is a multi-use venue. Whether you are interested in local steel industry history, preservation, how to make the best smoked meat, reviving your interest in ceramics, finally fixing your bike (hey – gas isn’t getting any cheaper!), dancing at the best dance party in town, seeing a locally made movie or any of the events listed below, you will find it all at the Steel Yard, May 15 – 18.

6p-9p with CLAY-DOH – $20 – for all the clay you want to play with, a drink and all-you-can-eat snacks

MECHANICS-A-GO-GO – $30 – Recycle-a-bike (located at the Steel Yard) expert mechanics will diagnose and (unless terminally ill,) fix your bike.

IRON CHEF: JUNKYARD EDITION – FREE – Stadium style setup for a battle of Industrial Arts Mastery.

5pm – 7pm
SMOKIN’ STEEL YARD BBQ – 25 – lots of food. hey! It’s a BBQ – the difference between this and most BBQs is the smokers at this here BBQ are made on the premises

10pm-Until…
STEEL YARD IS BURNING DANCE PARTY – $10 – enough said

Sunday May 18th

12pm-2pm
TEST YOUR METAL – FREE to watch – Weld competition. $10 to enter. You can enter as many times as you’d like. Welding experience is required and you must be at least 15 years of age.

2pm-4pm
HOW HIGH THE POT – FREE to watch – ceramic wheel competition for ages 8 and up. $10 to enter. No experience necessary. Winners take home Steel Yard gift certificates.

AT DARK – THIRSTY THEATER special edition – $10 – a preview of summer Thursdays to come. Local films take center stage on the big screen with all-you-can-eat popcorn.
